My client approached me with an ambiguous set of directions to design a character.
The Challenge
Interpret an existing original character in my own personal style
This was an experiment sent to a number of digital artists to see how a single character may be rendered differently as each illustrator envisions it.
The Creative Direction
The client had created an original character based on their favorite tropes and styles. The described it to me and asked that I draw what I heard as I filtered it through my own artistic lens.
The only instructions I got were shown here. No questions asked!
The Results
Though my results weren’t identical to the original character, my client said they liked my interpretation and kept it to use for specific versions.
